Smile, You’ve Got Sunshine

WARNING: The following post has nothing to do with working out, eating anything healthy, or anything relatively close.

This weekend, my friends and I had a “college renion”… 3 weeks after graduation. One of my friends had an extended birthday party and another one had a fantastic graduation brunch on Sunday.

The beautiful weather led us to the beach two days in a row, drinks were drank, food was plentiful, and fun was had by all… PLUS, I got a fantastic tan ūüėČ

SATURDAY

We took the ferry nice n early in the morning to Fire Island and spent the day at the beach/bar… We played volleyball, raced in the sand, and apparently did some cheerleading…

SUNDAY

We got back around 10 on Saturday night and passed out watching NCAA Track and Field Nationals on DVR. ¬†The next morning we headed over to our other friend’s grad party to face the ultimate reality that we’ve graduated from college (I still can’t handle it!!)

Call Me Maybe: Presidential Edition, Ice-Burn, and a Frog Fork

Hey there ūüôā

Ever go from being super busy every single day to doing pretty much nothing every single day? Since I’ve returned from school, this is me. I went from a 22 credit semester, 2 internships, and a full-on track season to an over-exerted computer and an endless supply of Real Housewives of ____.

With that being said, I cannot wait to start working at the gym. ¬†7-10 business days until my Certificate of Completion arrives. ¬†Let’s hope it comes sooner rather than later.

Good news is, throughout this period of unbelievable antsy-ness, I found this>>> Barack Obama + Call me Maybe  = GOLD

BUT this blog is about working out, sooo here it goes:

Yesterday: Legs- I’m sore but not as much as last week, this workout¬†blasted my butt.

You can find my Tuesday, weeks 1-3 lift here. ¬†This week, I added 2×15 squats. ¬†I was going to do 3 sets, but I started to get a little lightheaded. ¬†This has happened to me a few times before, anyone else?

After the workout, I iced my knees, as per usual, BUT this happened…

Knee: Post-ice

Know what that is? ICE BURN. A couple minutes after I iced, the skin on my knee started to hurt. I looked online and found out that after ice burn, heat it up. So I got a warm towel and put it on right away. ¬†(Thanks, LiveStrong website!) ¬†It’s definitely good to know and I thought I’d share with the rest of you in case this ever happens after you ice!

Luckily, I have a great deal of free time and have time to come up with as many animal puns as my heart desires! I also have a whale spoon and an alligator knife. ¬†I’m sure they’ll make appearances in the future.

Care is Key

I know this sounds absurd, but I am ridiculously excited for the Pretty Little Liars season premiere tonight, anyone else? But, because that’s 9 1/2 hours away from right now, I digress.

Yesterday was just some cardio (45 min elliptical) and 10 min abs, I have pretty bad knees so I have to lose some mass before a lot of running comes into the picture.

But as per the title of this post, “Care is Key“… More important than the actual workout is the CARE that you take of your body afterwards… Feed it with the good stuff! Sooo, after the gym, I went to the deli and grabbed my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE BREAKFAST EVER…

WW Everything bagel, 2 eggs, Salt, Pepper, Ketchup + Iced Coffee

Very simple, but VERY good… Anyone else have a fav meal that’s super standard?

Icin’ the kneez

10 years of track (I was a triple and long jumper) KILLED my body and has left me with patella¬†tendinitis¬†in both of my knees; especially my left one. ¬†Bringin’ it back to the title, Care is Key. ¬†For me, icing up is probably more important than the actual workout. ¬†I want to be able to walk when I’m 60. ¬†No body part replacements, please.

Do you have any post-workout rituals to take care of your body?

Oh, almost forgot, I bought a bathing suit yesterday (Top- Victoria’s Secret, Bottom- Gap)

Thank God for Rain

I hate the rain; I’m prohibited from a plethora of outdoor activities and summoned to my room for an indefinite amount of time. ¬†However, that means that my “To-Do” List keeps getting check marks and that’s not such a bad thing.

Currently, I am in the editing processes of my workout plan, as I said in the last post, being my own ginnea pig in an attempt to figure out what works best for me (remember, everyone’s different and you gotta do a lot of listening to your bod!)

So here is Thursday’s lift: (Upper Body)

Warmup: Walk to the Gym (It’s right up the block) + 5 Minute Treadmill Run

Tricep Overhead extension 2×15

(Paired with) Squat Holds 2x :35 (I know that’s lower body, but I gotta keep movin’)

BB Bench Press 3×8

Curls into Press 2x15ea

Pull Downs 3×15

Front, Lateral, Posterior Raises 3x15ea

(Paired with) Lower Back extension on machine w/ weight 3×15

+10 min abs

On the other days, I’ve been doing a LOT of walking, dabbling in running, and partaking in other¬†cardiovascularly¬†enticing activities.

More importantly, I’ve been hanging out with my super cool friends whom I haven’t seen since Christmas. ¬†I also got these puppies on a recent shopping venture in Forever 21:

Together they were like $12, I suggest you go buy 20 now.  Workout apparel has become my guilty pleasure, partially because I love to work out, mostly because I love neon.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Also, if anyone has any blog tips, I need them desperately so help me out ūüôā

First Day of Lifts!

Being that “Pop-Up Video” Jersey Shore is on, followed by Real Housewives of New Jersey… I won’t be getting anything done today (I guess I like New Jersey?). ¬†Good news is I can blog it up and discover who else is out there; Please let yourselves be known!

But I guess this is my first ‘real’ post so let’s get started!

Yesterday was my first day lifting in a month. ¬†After 4 years of rigorous track and field lifts and workouts, I’m ready to get started on MY OWN workout plan and begin my quest to get lean!

As I stated, I will be tracking my progress, so HERE is my “before” picture:

Yesterday started with these: 

Banana Protein Pancakes with Almond Butter

How it Happened: 

1/2 Cup Oatmeal, 1 scoop protein, 1 egg, 1/4 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 banana

And now for the LEGS workout…

-20 min warm-up on the elliptical 

-3x15x30lbs Kettlebell swings

-3×10 2 Leg Swiss Ball curls

-3×15 Swiss Ball Squats

-2x10x80lbs Dead Lifts

-2x12ea Side Leg Raises 

-3x5x85 Hang Cleans

+ABS and Stretch

Yesterday’s workout took less than an hour, but still left me sore today!¬†Afterwards, I grabbed a snack and my friends and I went for a hike for about an hour ūüôā

My First Post!

Dear Future Friends,

I’m Michelle. I just graduated college a little over a week ago and I’m getting ready to start the next phase of my life. ¬†While graduation is incredibly depressing, I’m excited to see what life has in store…

In college, I was a captain of my Division I Track and Field team and I’ve been active my whole life. ¬†I am a ISSA-certified Personal Trainer and have a job lined up once I get my CPR Certification. ¬†The purpose of this blog is to check my own progress through my workouts and food intake. ¬†I’m also here to answer any workout/nutrition questions you may have and learn from what information you know!

The picture on the top of the page (Marilyn Monroe lifting weights) is my favorite photo ever. I’ve had a huge poster of it in my room since freshman year in college.

I’m coming off a month-long break and today is the first day of my workouts… I realize I will be incredibly sore tomorrow, but I’m pumped for it!

If you have any questions or ¬†tips for me, they’re very much appreciated!

I’ll clue you in on my workout later, I’m gonna go Work IT out!
